Beyond Method 2 MAPPING MASHUP

My Map to the LHPL

Above is my map to the Liberty Hill Public Library.  It was easy to use, using google maps.  I hadn't realized you could save maps that you basically MADE and tagged.  I love that there is a little open book icon and the name of the Library designating location.  Although, as mapping programs are know to do, the location honestly isn't accurate, nor is the fire department's location.  I'd love to know how to go about getting these things straightened out.  I'm thinking that a deep read of help is in order.

****well, the link doesn't work from this post, but it works when I'm logged in to Google.  Back to the drawing board.

Beyond Method 2

The second lesson is on home pages.  I've played with this for a while, kicked things around, created one on yahoo and an iGoogle home page.  I've created a netvibes account.  Have I found one to be everything yet?  No....but I honestly think I'm not quite giving them the chance I should.  It gets overwhelming all the things I can do and want to do.

I've re-opened my netvibes account and watched Tine's Tips on Netvibes, setting up my account as I watched.

For library use, I'd like to experiment with making it usable for reference in our library primarily.  We are a small library and at our circulation desk we do it all, so I'd make a landing pad with our LIS, book sites we frequent often such as fantasticfiction.com, reference sites, links for school projects in our district, AR website.  My mind is spinning with the possibilities but I can see a staff account and a public account coming.  Thanks...more in my to do pile....but I love it.

Start your engines......

By no means am I tech savvy.  I work in a small public library, I've had to learn to be my own tech person half the time.  I get credit for being MUCH more savvy than I am.  But I do admit that I AM NOT AFRAID!!!!  Of computers that is.  The technology changes daily and is so addicting and excites me no end.

Our wonderful CTLS presented 23 things, based on Helene Blowers work, the past few years.  I've been through it twice simply because I love the things I learned and figured that the second time I'd work with different options for each section......and as I said, technology changes so fast there was sure to be new tools the second time around.

I've now stumbled upon Beyond Two Steppin', right up my alley.  I took an old blog I had been messing around with, cleaned it out and will add back widgets and goodies as I find things that appeal to me.  Looking forward to this new venture!
